What credit score is needed for an auto loan?
Approval is not based on credit score. Your lender will consider your credit history, your income, and your needs for approving an auto loan. Your score will determine the rate you pay upon approval.
Do I have to be a member to get an auto loan from Bowater Employees CU?
All of our auto loans require a credit union membership. If you are not already a member, you will join as a part of completing your loan. For additional information on applying for membership , please visit this page.
What factors will help me get the lowest possible interest rates on my loan?
For Auto Loans at Bowater Credit Union, the higher your credit score the better your rate. But rest assured that as a not-for-profit cooperative all our rates are competitively priced.
How do I get a variable rate on my loan?
New autos, trucks, vans, motorcycles, boats, and ATVs:
Variable rate is available with terms of 72 and 84 months. To be eligible for 72 month loans, amount must be greater than $10,000. 84 month terms are available on loans over $30,000.
For boat loans over $30,000, 120 month terms are also available.
Used autos, trucks, and vans:
For vehicles that are valued at over $10,000, loan terms of 72 months are available.
Used motorcycles, boats, and ATVs:
Items in this category valued at over $20,000 are eligible for 72 month terms at variable rates. For boats valued at over $30,000, we offer 120 month terms.
What qualifies as a “new” vehicle,” and what qualifies as a “used” one?
Any cars, trucks, and vans year 2021 or older with over 15,000 miles are termed used cars.
New cars, trucks, and vans that you haven’t previously financed through Bowater Employees CU are considered “new” if they are less than two years old and have less than 15,000 miles on them. The same is true for motorcycles, boats, and ATVs.
How can I make payments on a new, used, or refinanced loan?
With Bowater Employees CU, loan payments are easy. With online and mobile banking, you can apply, make loan payments, and check your remaining balance from the convenience of wherever you happen to be!
