What happened?

Equifax, one of the three major credit bureaus, has acknowledged a breach of their data.  As a credit bureau they stored information that, in the wrong hands, can be used for identity theft: Names, addresses, social security numbers, account numbers, and more.

Am I safe?

The current data says as many as one third of Americans have had their data compromised.  To find out more information, including links to how to find out if your data was compromised and to enroll in the free credit monitoring Equifax is offering, first visit the Federal Trade Commission’s site, which will link to Equifax’s site:

If you have concerns regarding protecting your account at the credit union, we offer members the option of adding  a password to their account.  The password will be used to verify identity any time you or anyone on the account interacts with the credit union, by phone or in person.  If you’d like to add a password to your account, feel free to give us a call or stop by any branch.
