June 2019 marked 85 years of the Federal Credit Union Act, which was signed by President Roosevelt in 1934. The act empowered all 50 states to authorize federally chartered credit unions.

In honor of the anniversary, www.mycreditunion.gov honored the financial education goals of all credit unions by providing ” 8 ways to save, 5 ways to reduce debt”. Here are 5 ways to reduce debt:

  1. Pay down your credit cards
  2. Pay more than the minimum
  3. Pay your bills on time
  4. Compare loan terms (interest and fees)
  5. Consolidate your debt
