CALHOUN – Bowater Credit Union member Deanna Hitch has won $1,000 from Bowater Credit Union to her favorite non-profit: Junior Achievement of the Ocoee Region.

Bowater CU has asked its members to nominate their favorite non-profit helping people in the counties eligible for credit union membership: Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, and Polk.  Junior Achievement of the Ocoee Region is the second winner of 2018.

“With proven curriculum and thousands of classroom mentors, Junior Achievement is providing young people with the real-world skills they want and need, like how to manage money, how to prepare for a career, and how to open and run a business.” wrote Hitch. She goes on to say, “It is JA’s belief that these concepts are critical to providing young people with the ability to take advantage of the opportunities available to them and achieve a better life for themselves and their communities.” The donation will be used to fund four programs at $250 each, which will impact approximately 100 students (25 per class).

There are JA offices worldwide, and JA of the Ocoee Region serves the same five counties eligible for membership at Bowater Credit Union: Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, and Polk.  To donate to JA of the Ocoee Region, visit their website at www.juniorachievement.org/web/ja-ocoee.

Any member of Bowater Credit Union can nominate their favorite non-profit for a $1,000 Pay It Forward prize.  Three more prizes will be given out in 2018, and the deadline to be considered for the next prize is August 31, 2018.

Bowater Credit Union began the Pay It Forward program in 2010 as a way to give back to the community it serves.  Since the program’s inception, Bowater Credit Union has given $40,000 to various charities making a difference in our community.  For more information, visit www.BowaterECU.org.
