Digital fraud is common and constantly evolving. In fact the increased hardship many are experiencing from the Covid-19 pandemic has lead to a now popular scheme “Unemployment Insurance Fraud”.
Unemployment Insurance Fraud is when someone uses your personal information to file for unemployment benefits. Often times victims of this type of fraud have no idea until they receive notice from their state unemployment insurance agency, employer, or if they apply for unemployment themselves.
So what is the main concern with Unemployment Fraud? While unemployment fraud does not affect your credit score itself it does mean someone has too much of your personal information. With the information they could easily open credit accounts.
This is why it is always important to keep an on your Credit Report for things you did not open yourself.
