Sara Wilson of Georgetown, TN has been selected as the winner of Bowater Employees Credit Union’s Annual $2,000 College Scholarship.  She competed with many qualified candidates on the basis of grades, school activities, civic activities, and an essay on the importance of credit unions in the lives of young adults.

Sara is a graduate of Walker Valley High School and has begun her undergraduate studies in Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  “Bowater Credit Union is proud to have Sara representing her credit union and her community at UT Knoxville,” said Kim Gunter, VP Marketing of Bowater Credit Union.

In her winning essay, Sara stated that “Credit unions are the ideal place for young adults to begin managing their finances.” And that “a young adult is likely to gravitate toward personalized service” and will appreciate a financial institution where they feel “confident and connected”, and that place is a credit union.

Every member who is a graduating high school senior is eligible to apply for Bowater Credit Union’s Annual $2,000 College Scholarship.  You must be a member by March 1 of the year you are graduating to qualify.

“I would encourage any graduating high school senior to open their account this fall and start saving,” said Gunter. “Anyone who lives or works in our area can open a savings account at Bowater Credit Union, and saving money on a regular basis not only qualifies you to apply for the scholarship, the money you save will come in very handy to help with college expenses next fall.”
