Bowater Credit Union Member Michell Goldston has won a $1,000 Pay It Forward prize for her favorite non-profit doing good in our area, City Fields located in Southeast Cleveland.

Bowater Credit Union asks its members to nominate their favorite non-profit helping people in the counties eligible for credit union membership: Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, and Polk.  Up to five $1,000 prizes are awarded each year and City Fields is the first winner of 2023.

“City Fields is a nonprofit organization located in Southeast Cleveland, Tennessee that has been cultivating change in the area for the past decade. Their focus is on two neighborhoods, Blythe Oldfield and College Hill- two neighborhoods that have been otherwise overlooked. City Fields is able to come alongside and partner with their neighbors and work to make these neighborhoods a place where they can flourish into thriving members of the community,” wrote Goldston. To bring change, City Fields has various focus areas of work; this includes workforce development, affordable housing for first-time homebuyers, community gardens, events, and financial literacy classes. City Fields will be using their $1000 towards their newest program ‘Money Milestones”, a free 18-month financial literacy course.  “I believe that by receiving this award, City Fields will be able to use the funding to create a long-lasting impact in the lives of their community. It will empower residents to use their money in ways that are beneficial to their own flourishing.”
